Losing weight as an endomorph can be tough, but it's not impossible. Eat a nutritious diet and exercise regularly, and you'll see your body composition begin to shift. Endomorphs tend to naturally have a slower metabolism and be less active, compared to ectomorphs, who are naturally skinny with a high metabolism, and mesomorphs, who are naturally lean and muscular. The endomorph body type doesn't necessarily refer only to outward physical characteristics, although Sheldon's somtatotyping system originally referred to body structure alone. More recent advancements in body typing such as the Heath- Carter method, take into account internal (metabolic) characteristics as well. From a metabolic perspective, the endomorph body type sometimes has varying degrees of carbohydrate sensitivity and insulin resistance. Pay close attention, because this is an important point. If someone is metabolically carbohydrate intolerant due to a genetic tendency, then high carbohydrate diets are not the preferred choice for fat loss goals as they will stimulate excess secretion of insulin and glucose will be partitioned into the fat cells more easily. A nutrition strategy for the carb intolerant endomorph then is to immediately clip the processed and refined carbs from the diet, particularly white sugar and white flour products. These concentrated carbs will be much more problematic for endomorphs, while the ecto and meso's seem to get away with it a little bit more. So I've had some grieving over food going on but that was 9. Any cravings I had haven't been physical cravings but triggered by pictures of food. For some odd reason, smells of food do not bother me as much as pictures. Sleep. Good but would occasionally wake up in early morning hours. If I didn't get enough sleep, I severely paid for it the next day. Slept 9- 1. 0 hours a night and more on weekends. I sleep like a log. Need a little bit less sleep than before at times. If I go to bed late, it doesn't automatically mess up my next day as long as I catch up. Sleep 8- 9 hours a night including weekends. Coffee. Drank 3- 4 cups a day with cream. This is actually an improvement over what I used to drink. Drink 1 cup a day - black. Considering giving it up altogether. This is really unprecedented for me as I've always been a coffee addict. Allergies. My eyes would severely water in the mornings and I have also been susceptible to spring allergies. Zero allergies even though it's an early spring here and the pollen is everywhere. No watering eyes. Headaches. Headache / neckaches multiple times per week. Only two headaches since I started ZC, and NONE for over two weeks! The Emotional Side of Zero Carb Living. Yes, I have had fabulous results. Yes, I want to continue. But please don't take all of the good shown above and think that it was easy. The planning, preparing, shopping and eating were simple and easy. There were very little physical cravings after 5 days. But my life has changed this month – which hasn't been easy. The emotional crutch of food was taken away. Mentally I had to deal with that, and there was a grieving process to go through. I dare say I'm still dealing with this as I'm sure this will take longer than a month to tackle. But what I can say, is that the grieving over carbs in the evening on day 1. REALLY just want the comfort of eating a piece of fruit (or worse) is worth the prize at the end. Increased health and weight loss are purely side benefits of this way of eating. Forcing the body to detoxify by fasting and/or using products (many of which have questionable value) can actually be harmful. If protective nutrition is not readily available, the free radicals that are produced can cause oxidation and tissue damage. A slow natural detoxification is more realistic, yet can still be very challenging. GAPS intro is a gentle way to detox. The introductory phase of the GAPS diet is the perfect tool for detoxification and one that I use in my practice. In this protocol, you are eating food that is exceptionally easy to digest and full of available nutrients. ![]() As you work your way through the stages, you are slowly adding more varieties of food. In this way you can see how well you tolerate the new foods and can continue with them if they are tolerated well. If a particular new food is troublesome you can eliminate it and come back to it further down the road. It is recommended that you read the GAPS book and GAPS guide before you start the diet. Detoxification is a process that puts a metabolic burden on the body. Energy is required to achieve detoxification. Therefore, water or juice fasts are not beneficial because they deplete the body of the essential nutrients required for healthy detoxification. Water or juice fasts have many adverse health effects, including decreased energy production, breakdown of lean tissue instead of fat, increased oxidative stress, and unbalanced detoxification. Rather than decreasing nutrient support, a focused, high- impact, low allergy potential source of micro and macronutrients should be provided. Listen to your body. It is not wise to proceed with any type of detox program if you are pregnant or nursing. Toxins are released and eliminated from your body and this may affect the fetus if you are pregnant or they may go into the milk if you are nursing. If you feel a great amount of discomfort or symptoms on the early stages, you may have to start with the later stages and work your way back. If you have a great toxic burden it is always wise to start very slowly. Rest your digestive tract. If you are generally healthy, going through the stages well, and want a greater detox benefit, you may consider a one day broth and juice fast. I would not do this right away, but some people can manage this after stage 4, when freshly juiced vegetables are included. This will thoroughly rest your digestive tract. Alternating fresh juice and broths every few hours, for one day, will greatly amplify the detox. After the one day broth and juice fast you can proceed with stage 4 again. GAPS Intro Stages. Stage 1. Meat, chicken or fish stock. Well boiled broccoli, cauliflower, carrots, onions, leeks. Baked squash, winter and summer. Boiled meats. Sea salt. Stage 2. All of the above and you may add: Fermented vegetables, such as sauerkraut, kimchi and pickles. Fermented fish. The Full GAPS Diet. The Full GAPS Diet By Dr Natasha Campbell- Mc. Bride. Your patient needs to carry on completely avoiding starches and sugar for two years at least. It means avoiding all grains, sugar, potatoes, parsnips, yams, sweet potato and anything made out of them. The flour in your cooking and baking can be replaced with ground almonds (or any other nuts or sunflower or pumpkin seeds ground into flour). In about 1 – 1. 5 years you may be able to introduce new potatoes, fermented buckwheat, millet and quinoa, starting from very small amounts and observing any reaction. Wheat, sugar, processed foods and all additives will have to be out of the diet for much longer. Slowly increase the amounts of fermented foods. You can ferment vegetables, fruit, milk and fish (please look in the recipe section). I would also recommend reading a wonderful book by Sally Fallon “Nourishing Traditions”, it will provide you with a lot of good recipes. Eating fermented foods with every meal will help your patient to digest the meal without using supplements or digestive enzymes. Make sure to introduce all new fermented foods into the diet very gradually starting from 1- 2 teaspoons a day. The best foods for the GAPS person are eggs, meats and fish (bought fresh or frozen, not smoked or canned, and cooked at home), shellfish, fresh vegetables and fruit, nuts and seeds, garlic and olive oil. As well as eating the vegetables cooked it is important to have them raw in the form of salads and sticks. In this form they will provide your patient with valuable enzymes and detoxifying substances, which will help in digesting meats. Raw fruit should be eaten on their own, not with meals, as they have a very different digestion pattern and can make the work harder for the stomach. At that stage let your patient to have fruit as a snack between meals. Remember, that about 8. Sweet baking and fruit should be snacks between meals in limited amounts. It is very important for a GAPS person to have plenty of natural fats in every meal from meats, butter, ghee, coconut and cold pressed olive oil. The fat content of the meal will regulate the blood sugar level and control cravings for carbohydrates. If your patient gets a tummy bug or any other form of diarrhoea go back to the low fibre diet for a few days: remove all nuts, raw vegetables and raw fruit out of the diet; go back to meats cooked in water and meat stock, fish, eggs, fermented dairy and cooked vegetables (skinned, de- seeded and well cooked with meats as soups and stews) until diarrhoea completely clears. After the stools stay normal for a week introduce raw vegetables slowly, one at a time and starting from small amounts. When vegetables are introduced, try to introduce nuts, seeds and fruit gradually. It is important for your GAPS patient to balance the meals so that his or her body p. H stays normal. All protein foods, such as meats, fish, eggs and cheese leave an acid ash in the body, which may aggravate his or her condition. Vegetables are alkalising, so you need to combine meats, fish and eggs with good amount of vegetables cooked and/or raw. Raw fruit, vegetables and greens have particularly strong alkalising ability. Apple cider vinegar is very alkalising, it is good to have it every day: just add one teaspoon of cider vinegar into every glass of water your patient drinks. Hot water with cider vinegar will makes an excellent warming and alkalising drink. Fermented foods are also alkalising. It is very important to avoid processed foods (any packet or tinned foods). They are stripped from most nutrients that were present in the fresh ingredients used for making these foods. They are a hard work for the digestive system and they damage the healthy gut flora balance. On top of that they usually contain a lot of artificial chemicals, detrimental to health, like preservatives, colorants, E- numbers, etc. Try to buy foods in the form that nature made them, as fresh as possible. Do not use a microwave oven, as it destroys food. Cook and warm up food using conventional oven and stove.
